Hello and welcome to Spa Speakers.
Does the thought of being asked to stand up in front of a group of people to speak make you shrink down into your seat and wish the floor would open up and swallow you whole? Perhaps you believe that the ability to encourage, support and mentor people is the preserve of others? If you have these, or similar, thoughts about your oral communication or leadership skills and would like to make a change you’ve come to the right place!
My name is Ivo Spreeuwenberg and I am delighted to have been elected President of Spa Speakers for 2011-12. Together with the club’s leadership team and our enthusiastic and supportive members I extend a warm welcome to our friendly and fulfilling club.
Spa Speakers is part of Toastmasters International, which means that our members benefit from the experience of an organisation that has been building on and improving its educational framework for over 85 years. Personally I’ve benefited immensely over the course of the two and half years I’ve been a member. Of course plucking up the courage to come along in the first place wasn’t easy. However once I managed to get over that first hurdle I was well on my way with all the help and encouragement of fellow club members. The confidence it has given me has changed my life.
It is from this very personal experience of Spa Speakers that I chose my theme for the year to be “Take the leap into a confident new you”. At the end of the day the structure of the Toastmasters educational program inevitably delivers personal growth and confidence. At Spa Speakers we deliver this structure in a fun and entertaining way so that every meeting is an enjoyable experience. So much so that you may even find that your increased confidence creeps up on you without you even realising it!
